Layton pandering continues (1)

Toronto, Sep 29 (IANS) Canadian opposition leader Jack Layton has promised support for a new visa office in Mumbai and official status for the Punjabi language in Canada if he becomes prime minister after the Oct 14 polls.Jack, whose New Democratic Party (NDP) has fielded a record 14 Indian Canadian candidates to woo the million-strong community, said his party will also roll back a newly passed immigration bill that the community finds discriminatory.India will be a priority nation for his government if it comes to power and he will visit New Delhi at the earliest, Layton told IANS in an interview.
Layton noted that given the increasing influence of India in the international business and political realms and the increasing number of immigration applications in India, “it would only make sense to expand our diplomatic and administrative presence in India.
“A visa office in Mumbai is one way that increased presence could be realized and my party government will be open to studying the merits of this proposal,” Layton added.
He said that if he becomes prime minister, “I would look forward to visiting India early in my term to discuss a variety of opportunities that exist to strengthen ties between our countries”.
Layton also made clear his displeasure over a new bill that nixes India’s chances of becoming the number one source of immigration to Canada.

If he once had a shot at opposition status….since the English debate he’s lost it.
A caller to CFRB this morning said that Jack’s been screaming ever since he was a Toronto councillor and he’s still screaming at folks.
And they say Harper’s scary.

“If he once had a shot at opposition status…since the English debate he’s lost it.”
I agree, Voca.
He’s gone to far.

On Sept 14,2008 on CPAC Layton publicily said to reporters in BC
that he sent a letter to OBAMA regarding to NAFTA.
Also a few months ago when Layton was on Rutherford show via phone he told Dave R. that he phoned Hilary and Obama to apologize for the remarks made by Ian Brodin.
Now let me get this straight, Brodie who never phoned either candidate but talked to CTV reporter is splash news whereas Layton who phoned both candidates is not splash news.
I don’t think for one minute the conversation between the american candidates and Layton was only “I am sorry.” Both the american candidates and Layton do not care for NAFTA so what does that tell you.
Lately Obama and Biden seem to repeat the exact wording as LAYTON and Dion.

“jack you arrogent bastard this one will hang you”…
He does what he can.
Note: At first I thought you were referring to me “Royalist”. Maybe you were…I don’t know. Anyway, I edited my comment.

“Layton warns U.S.-style meltdown possible in Canada”
This should be edited to include “….if the NDP ever form the government.”
And the fact he would give any ethnic / nationality group preference for immigration rather than basing it on skills or some other criteria is pathetic.

How many languages are spoken in Canada? How many “special interest” groups has Layton promised official linguistic recognition to? Is the cutoff for acceptance conditional on the number of votes Layton can buy? Will corn flakes boxes be big enough to list its contents in all official languages? The Trudeau vision of “Bi-this and Bi-that” has been shattered.
Buy Buy Layton

I don’t think that remark was for you Jack, just like I did a while ago, never giving it a thought you would think we were talking of you.
In future, I suggest anyone referring to Jack Layton, please use his last name only.
October 5th, 2008 at 6:26 pm
Thanks Mary. If referring to me use “bear”. It fits.

sorry Jack my bad. I should have been clearer in my meaning! layton was my target. something about this totally political whore, who would sell my country for his own benifit makes me react without thinking some times. I’ve alway’s respected your view’s even if I some time’s don’t agree. which dosn’t happen all that often. please accept my apology!

Not a problem. Unfortunately I share a first name with him and from here it sometimes seems to me that people are referring to me (I often have to read a comment three or four times to grasp the meaning).
Mary suggested people refer to Layton as “Layton”. That will help. When referring to me use “bear” and all will become clear.
Then I will stand chastized if I screw up and will grasp the comment immediately.

Taliban Layton doesn’t have the same ring but it’ll have to do.
This election is a real make-or-break for Layton. The NDP isn’t noted for being particularly tolerant or patient with it’s leaders. If Layton doesn’t markedly increase the NDP’s seat count in this election, he’ll be tossed out of his position. He knows that since he was harshly criticized after the last election on two fronts:
1- for allowing the election to happen. Big Paulie was desperate to maintain power and Layton used that desperation to extort expensive concessions. By cooperating to defeat the government, Layton gave up the grip he had on Big Paulie.
2- for allowing Big Paulie to play the “Lend Me Your Vote to Save The World From The Evil Harper” game which cost the NDP a number of close races.
The only reason Layton remained in charge was the NDP increased their seat count from 19 to 29. This didn’t match the 43 seats which Ed Broadbent’s Dippers won in 1988 but it was a step in the right direction. If this election produces another increase but not sufficient to secure Official Opposition, Layton will face a leadership review and might be turfed. Should the seat count remains static or decreases, Layton will be expected to step down.
