“A really big deal…this!” (3)
Posted on 30 September 2008 by Jack
Conservative Leader Stephen Harper plagiarized almost half of a speech he delivered in 2003 as opposition leader, Liberal candidate Bob Rae alleged on Tuesday.
Harper gave the speech in Parliament on March 20 — the first day U.S. forces began bombing Baghdad, and two days after then-Australian Prime Minister John Howard gave a strikingly similar address.
At a news conference in Toronto on Tuesday morning, Rae played the speech by Harper simultaneously with a speech by then-Australian prime minister John Howard.
Much of Harper’s address matches Howard’s virtually word for word.

When Bob Rae says jump, the MSM say” How High”. Mike Duffy will have a “love in” with Bob Rae again tonight. GAG!!!
September 30th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Where’s our Adscam money, Bob Rae? I have not forgotten, and will not forget. “Je me souviens”.
September 30th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
I just watched the CBC coverage of this, they were covering it with absolute glee. All that was missing was a few loud yipee’s and backslapping. Watch the Libs make it part of their platform.
September 30th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
So is this the best or worse they can find ! Talk about desperate and irrelevant.
So I’ll vote for the Liberal ” carbon taxes ” because Steven Harper or his speech writer at the time may have copied or used a speech he agreed with at the time ( Sarcasm ) ? Oh wait……and maybe I’m ” plagiarizing ” this as I just read the CBC comment section and I’m pretty sure I read a comment almost identical to what I just wrote above LOL.
And ” Green Shift ” / ” The Green Shift ” isn’t plagiarizing ?
September 30th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
And how many elections have we had since that speech was made.
Liberals must be really slow or very desperate to try and make this important this time and not in 2004.
Maybe if they had used this then they would have got a majority.
September 30th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
In an unprecedented stroke of good fortune, it seems the Liberals have come out with an attack ad decrying Mr. Harpers close ties with Mr Bush “since 2003″
This within hours of Mr. Raes “revelations”
September 30th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
Never underestimate the pettiness of the Liberal Party of Canada.
September 30th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
I think Bob Rae should apologize to all the families who, during their prime time tv viewing, were horrified by the Rae’s lily white bum….truly distasteful and it scared the children.
Let the Liberals have their fun because neither Iggy or Rae can help Dion during the debate….unless of course they write his script…..oh, nope, doesn’t the CBC usually do that?
September 30th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Tory staffer resigns.
September 30th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
I’ll tell you what is the big deal about this. People are outraged that CTV would show a picture of Stephen Harper walking his beautiful daughter Rachel to school and then insinuate that her dad might encourage her to copy at school. What kind of bully’s are running CTV newsnet? Even the media in the USA leave Obama’s children out of the smear. CTV has crossed the line here and I am disgusted. Canadians need to let CTV know that we will not accept this.
September 30th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Right on Fay…I watched PMSH walking his daughter on tv…fortunately I didnt have the sound up….
September 30th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Bare ass bob, shut up.
September 30th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Rush over to Steve Jankes “Angry in the Great White North”, Steve has some plagiarism issues with Boob rhi and Deyawn too! Pots calling the kettles black.
September 30th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
I think this is a classic example of the type “convenient outrage” that turns more and more Canadians away from participating in the political process. The sheer hypocrisy, arrogance and pettiness that is evidenced here disgusts me and I truly hope the liberals get taken to the woodshed and soundly thrashed on Oct. 14th. There are serious issue at stake in Canada and the world and they can’t get past the “gotcha” games. I’m at a loss for words.
mid island mike.
September 30th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
Wasnt the lieberals ‘Green Shift’ also plagiarizing?
September 30th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
yes I believe UV that they stole the green shift idea…I seem to recall from my searching the net that there is innuendo from Miss May about stephane stealing the greens ideas at one point…and also from david suzuki….
please look at my post to be reminded of another of the liberals sleeping dragons…that of their tamil constituents of which they will do nothing about…
I intend to trot out some more reminders of bob rae too
September 30th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Notwithstanding the “Green Shift”, few people, if any have any idea if Dion has ever plagiarized anyone else because only the Shawinigan Mangler can understand that sad SOB.

yes, go to steve janke…he mentions a lot there…
http://stevejanke.com/archives/274526.php
The liberals only seem to know one way to get back to power..
mudsling…they have been doing it for 2 years now
Let us hope Canadians are getting pretty fed up with them…they show no interest in talking to canadians about the issues confronting us, solutions, or reassurances…
They have no clue.
September 30th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
I’m surprised the speeches weren’t word-for-word as a common collaboration between two allies. But hey! Bob Rae finally said something as “the opposition foreign affairs critic” so I guess he feels he’s entitled to his entitlement for the year.
September 30th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Thanks NBTL…great pass. I added it to my main entry.
“Hah”….
September 30th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
Heh. Ujjal Dosange was on an open-line show here in Vancouver and was loudly voicing feined outrage over the Harper speech. I managed to get through and told him that his leader had ripped off pieces of the Suzuki Foundation report in his document, without attribution. He sputtered that it was only a footnote blah blah blah but he pulled back considerably.
I love embarrassing Dosange on the air…
September 30th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
I’m laughing. We have to keep this up.
September 30th, 2008 at 7:42 pm
The feigned indignation and sputtering from Bob Rae and some segments of the MSM over this “much ado about nothing” event, is quite laughable and just adds to the level of cynicism rampant among the general population with politicians of all stripes.
Come on Mr. Rae there must be a real Conservative scandal buried out there somewhere that if exposed to the light of day just might prolong Mr. Dion’s reign as Liberal leader until election day at least.
September 30th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Jack…I saw it headlined re Steve Janke…but credit has to go to Jemma54 for mentioning it in this thread that we should go there…she said go and I obeyed
I had to turn the TV off…the Liberal gloat and gotcha smiles are pathetic…
They sat on this for months….
Glad we have it up
September 30th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
Who has written all of Obama’s speeches. He is lost without his teleprompter. What else have the liberals got hidden and are sitting on to try to get people to vote ABL to stop PMSH.
Stealing from Danny, is that theft, plagerism or stupidity.
September 30th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
and, look here..The Canadian Sentinel makes no bones about it .
September 30th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
Can you smell the desperation exuding from the Liberals and their lapdog media? Me too…
September 30th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
No wonder liberals are going into the past. Dion is calling on Paul Martin for debate help. Need his advise on how he balanced books etc. Hey, he did that in the last century, things were different then. So, watch out, cuts to health care funds, wage and price control, higher excise taxes on gas, cut to military. Aren’t those past actions of liberals, and they want to go back there. What cuts did Martin make, what taxes did he raise.
What help will he give Dion, maybe promise to abolish the not withstanding clause. That was a winner for Martin.
People over 50 make sure they get out and vote every election, and we remember the damage of liberal ghosts of the past.
September 30th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
Any chance that Jack or someone connected with this blog will keep a thread open on the progression of the debate wednesday night? I realize there are dreadful time differences. I am in atlantic standard time..goodness knows when it starts for me…
October 1st, 2008 at 12:49 am
Never underestimate the sleaziness of the Liberal Party of Canada.
October 1st, 2008 at 8:36 am
What it clearly shows is that Harper, has ( still is) been advised by John Howard and Republican operatives. The attack adds are proof enough. I’d suggest that Owen Lippert is taking the fall for this. It’s beyond belief that others did not know he’d copied Howards speech. He’ll be well rewarded.
Don’t worry people, it’s not making much of a splash.
October 1st, 2008 at 8:43 am
Voca, worried about Bob Rae and his bare ass? How about Stephen Harper violently chasing and attacking a homosexual on the Rick Mercer Report with a hockey stick and puck? Gay bashing at it’s worse! I guess it’s ok because Chretien tried to strangle the same guy.
October 1st, 2008 at 8:54 am
It is obvious that CTV were helping Bob Rae with this speech plagiarism. Mike Duffy crowed about the flood of support that the Bloc will get with the reminder of Iraq.
All Canadians now have proof after watching Mike Duffy that CTV and the Liberal Party prefer to support the Bloq than the Conservative Party. A sad day for Canada.
I used to believe Mike Duffy loved our country Canada, not anymore. Liberal Party first ,unifyed Canada second.

Larry I think you have managed to be the first and only person who can type and manage to live on this planet with a 90 percent mud mix in your veins. Popular Science where are you!!!
