Evangelicals rally behind Palin after pregnancy news *********

Posted on 02 September 2008 by Jack

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) — Key evangelical leaders rallied to Sarah Palin’s support Monday amid news that her 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, was having a child.

“Before, they were excited about her, with the Down syndrome baby,” conservative, anti-tax activist Grover Norquist said. “But now with this, they are over the moon. It reinforces the fact that this family lives its pro-life values.”

Palin and John McCain oppose abortion and have supported promoting abstinence in schools, which would seem to make Bristol Palin’s pregnancy an inconveniently timed development.

But she is keeping the child, a fact that could make the Alaska governor — whose candidacy has been enthusiastically embraced by evangelicals who regard her as one of their own — even more popular among that key GOP voting bloc.

“Fortunately, Bristol is following her mother and father’s example of choosing life in the midst of a difficult situation,” Family Research Council president Tony Perkins said. “We are committed to praying for Bristol and her husband-to-be and the entire Palin family as they walk through a very private matter in the eyes of the public.”

Evangelical leader Richard Land also backed Palin completely.

“This is the pro-life choice. The fact that people will criticize her for this shows the astounding extent to which the secular critics of the pro-life movement just don’t get it,” Land said in a statement.

“Those who criticize the Palin family don’t understand that we don’t see babies as a punishment but as a blessing. Barack Obama said that if one of his daughters made a mistake and got pregnant out of wedlock, he wouldn’t want her to be punished with a child. Pro-lifers don’t see a child as punishment.”

The immediate support of these major figures, who offered universal praise for the Palins’ actions after learning their daughter was pregnant, provides the filter through which conservative Christian voters will process the development.

It’s unfortunate that this girl and her baby have to be dragged into the political spotlight to be used and abused by both Republicans and Democrats.

Politics is getting more and more sick as the years go by!

  2. beentheredonethat Says:

How are Republicans dragging this girl and her unborn baby anywhere? When they found out excited Democrats called their MSM accomplices who literally fell all over themselves to be the first to splash this so-called damaging ‘news’ across the front pages of their newspapers and lead stories on their news casts. What were the Republicans to do, deny it? They shouldn’t have and they didn’t. What do the vast majority of decent citizens think of this story? It’s just another noisey artillary barrage from the left but as they often do, they end up firing blanks. This young girl’s pregnancy is only news because Democrats made it news.

  3. Anna Keightley Says:

From what I’ve gathered one notable American blogger first went with the speculation that the Down’s Syndrome son of the Palins was the daughter’s child. A Left-backing blogger was brainless to go there without any proof whatsoever. He’s discredited himself and the blogosphere and actually shown the Left’s propensity for anything and everything to gain power. No bounds/limts toward basic decency.

The American MSM are flaunting the story as if it’s a record — first time a young girl gets pregnant before a marriage ceremony. Guess what, it’s happened before in young love and it’ll happen again.

Now contrast real life scenarios (congratulating anyone expecting) to Bill Clinton’s forays in the oval office with an impressionable 20-year old at the time. He was 50 years of age I think. Oh, the media played that as exciting and gossip mongering took over the platform, while the Clinton administration missed clear opportunities to reign in bin Laden having them in their sites.

As Obama correctly and astutely indicated, personal lives of family members and especially children, should be off limits. Not like in the Clinton situation where the Oval office and its business was directly ‘interrupted.’ If ‘it bleeds it leads’ and if sex is involved, everyone seems to take leave of their basic senses. Go figure.

Now, can we get back to the real news. Economic forecasts. Like Cynapse, I’m thinking about Bernanke and his decisions. So should we here in Canada.

  4. MaryT Says:

McCain has just done what Obama should have done. He has pulled an interview with CNN because of their over the top coverage of this story. Wolfe looks good with egg on his face, but Jack is still not getting the message. Wolfe said, he hoped that McCain would join them on their panel. Joe Biden is defending Sarah. Children are off limits. We will see how this plays out when Campbell Brown has her show. She is the reason McCain cancelled. Glen Beck defends her, and gives the media a bad time. Just mentioned that there are 3 million unwed pregnancies/yr in the USA. Sarah identifies with lots of those families.

  5. Jack Says:

“Jack is still not getting the message.”

Yes I have, Mary. Therefore the reason I’ve been backing Sarah the past couple of days. There’s nothing else I can do from here but I feel it important.

I wish visitors from the US would weigh in here and tell me I’m right or I’m wrong.

My sidebar “mini-poll” is telling me I’m right (and please vote no matter where you come from).

  6. Anna Keightley Says:

Jack, I think Mary T was referring to Jack Cafferty of the great, infallible CNN org. The “know-it-alls” counting on the population not knowing the half of it, which we don’t. And the percentage precipitously drops from there. However, we trudge on…

  7. MaryT Says:

OOOOPS, sorry Jack, I really did mean Jack Cafferty, and if you watched him today, he proves my point.
I really never made the connection between the two names. Thanks to Anna for reminding me.

  8. Jack Says:

All is forgiven. In future refer to me as “Bear”…there will be no mixup there.

  9. MaryT Says:

The message seems to have got out, the tone has died down, a little on Wolfe’s panel. Now they are attacking Joe Liberman.
Also, the gal doing floor interviews seems to be having trouble finding anyone to talk to, unless they are very pro Sarah. Still waiting for Campbell Brown to make an appearance.
And do all these democrats and media types think McCain is going to win in Nov. Why else are they so concerned if Sarah is ready to be POTUS.
By their attacks, lots of examples of the double standard and hyprocricy. Al Gore’s son arrested for DUI the night before Al Gores acceptance speech, Obama and his ties to Ayers, Wright, Bidens sons under investigation for fraud re some credit card investigation. Bennett asked, why are you ignoring all this.

  10. MaryT Says:

Hillarious, Jeannie Most just did a man in the street interview to see if Sarah Palin’s name was known. She asked one woman, who is McCains running mate, answer Obama. And these people are allowed to vote.

  11. Anna Keightley Says:

Sounds like the skit on the Jay Leno show, Mary. CNN making sure the public’s fools are out and about. Wish I had seen it.

  12. Anna Keightley Says:

I think I’ve figured out this game of politics. You simply sling anything your party’s actually guilty of at the other guy. Like Dion and Rae today are doing to PM Harper. They have utterly no qualms about doing it, do they?

They’d make good morcels for Grizzlies right about now. I’m sick of this bunch. Somewhere in print today I read where Gerard Kennedy reportedly made the claim the Liberals have money to MATCH the Conservatives’ funds. So, if that is the case, Gerard knows WHERE this money is and from whence it came. This contradicts all prior reports that the Liberals are down on campaign financing.

A headline before the weekend indicated ‘the gloves are off’ and so they should be.

Again, there are more articles on the mail-box flyers being not appropriate — they really do NOT WANT OUR GOV’T talking out the message and feedback arriving back at gov’t. Now, just why would that be? I guess people have really taken the time to respond. Maybe the Liberals don’t like the response as likely not in their favour whatsoever. That’s my guess.

Literally can’t wait for the debates, because Harper armed with the facts is, no doubt, going to make mince meat out of this crew.

  13. Jack Says:

“You simply sling anything your party’s actually guilty of at the other guy:”

Not really…all you need is a rumor and the media will print it if you’re on the wrong team.

  14. Anna Keightley Says:

You mean “unsubstantiated rumours”, Jack? No kidding. Hmmmm…one shouldn’t be dealing in rumours, but only a little thing called EVIDENCE. I was making a point earlier. It’s no good doing business any which way you want. That’s what’s caused all “les problemes.” It can be reversed with a good gov’t influencing business/industry/media…you name it. it’s not rocket science. Never was. We wait for ‘the change.’

Listen to Dion. He IS accusing Harper of what his party has been involved in. I really despuise crooks, thieves and liars. We have a problem with too many supporting this farcical party. Convincing them otherwise, is the $64,000. question.

  15. Lindsay Says:

DailyKOS has “deleted” a number of their posts.

Join me in a DailKOS poll? that means absolutely nothing.

  16. Cynapse Says:

“I think I’ve figured out this game of politics. You simply sling anything your party’s actually guilty of at the other guy.”

You’re about to become 50% less popular around here. ;)

  17. Anna Keightley Says:

Cute, Cynapse. That would reduce me to zero, right? hahhahahha. We’re going through the motions, adding up to exactly what? LOL.

  18. timwest Says:

Young black girls under the age of 17 end up pregnant 62% more than white girls in the USA………. would the Dems like it if Media
and right wingers dragged B. Hussein Obamas daughters into the
    the debate.

That would be very nasty indeed……….. but that is what Cnn
and other MSM even here in Canada have done to Palins daughter.

  19. Fay Says:

I am ashamed of Canadian MSM. Tonight on the CBC national Niell MacDonald reported every innuendo and rumor about Sarah Palin’s daughter. This was a disgusting display of poor taste, I am shocked that the CBC would stoop this low.
I feel very sorry for this young woman and embarassed at the lack of respect Canada’s public sponsored broadcast station is treating her. All Canadians should hang their head in shame over the words and actions of the CBC. It is obvious that they believe women are second class citizens.God help our women in this country.

  20. timwest Says:

At age 22 B. Hussien Obama has admitted doing cocaine, where is
the MSM on this matter !!

Possible Pres. Obama a Coke user or possible VP Palins daughter
pregnant ……….. now which matter is more Important.

Humm……… could give orders to use Nukes, could being a
    coke user affect your descision.

  21. MaryT Says:

I guess the cbc didn’t get the message from Obama, lay of the children.

and right wingers dragged B. Hussein Obamas daughters into the
    the debate.

The hard right will do it any way, but the two main factors that invalidate your comparison are:

    1) Obama’s daughters aren’t pregnant
    2) Obama isn’t running a holier-than-thou family values platform

BTW, can’t imagine how that “statistic” relates to an incident we know didn’t happen. You guys are giving up the reasons for this desperate Palin support quicker than expected.

Possible Pres. Obama a Coke user or possible VP Palins daughter
pregnant ……….. now which matter is more Important.

I believe you mean FORMER coke user. Taking the current president into account … the latter, according to the public. Why, I don’t know, since many great leaders have awful personal lives. But since the hard right wanted to play dirtyball with Obama, what goes around …

  24. Larry Says:

I see nothing in this story that related to how either candidate is prepared to run the USA over the next 4 years. These could be very important years for the USA and the world. As usual the media and many of the “players” have picked up the wrong balls and are running with them. I guess though, debating the candidates qualifications don’t make for good headlines, or good blog reading.

Time to turn to the comic section.

  25. beentheredonethat Says:

Perhaps Fred Thompson summed the left wing and their MSM accomplices hysteria surrounding Govenor Palin being picked as McCain’s VP. Nobody predicted it. The MSM and other so-called ‘insiders’ have got their nose’s all out of joint. If they didn’t predict it, then it their petulant little minds it isn’t going to happen and they are going to do everything in their power to ensure that it doesn’t. No blow will be too low. These types of people make up a kind of a sick, pathetic segment of society come to think of it.

  26. Anna Keightley Says:

It was DailyKOS, LIndsay. I check the site once in a while, but the backpeddling is obvious. The comments are interesting indicating ‘hopelessness’ in some of their responses. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I urge people to especially read the comments. Obama’s team is not going to be pleased, nor should it be.

NY Post has economists supporting Obama’s economic plan over McCain’s. Article should be retrieved and examined. But his idea to retool the auto industry to turn out fuel efficient/hybrid vehicles has to be part of the solution.

Fay, your comment is so appropriate. CBC has shamed us as Canadians by shaming that young girl.

Yes, Mary CBC could have picked up Obama’s cue, because it was the right one.
