Weston: Harper ready to snap
Posted on 31 August 2008 by Jack
As the passion of Barack Obama continues to stir America in his captivating presidential campaign of hope, a looming federal election will soon give Canadians a choice between Bully Boy and Mr. Bean.
Stephen Harper versus Stephane Dion — the nasty prime minister many Canadians can’t stand, against the nerdy Liberal leader most can’t understand.
Little wonder a recent poll found a huge number of Canadians would gladly trade their ballots here for a chance to vote for Obama in the U.S. race.
After almost three years as prime minister, Harper has led his party through an historic stagnation of public opinion, despite a near-vacuum on the opposition benches.
The Conservatives would enter a campaign this week almost where they were in national popularity on the last election day.

Heh! If Mr Weston is a reflection of Ontario voter’s perceptions of the Conservative party and what it supposedly stands for, then it is small wonder that a man like JCxPM and a political party with no moral conviction swept the province with a 100 seats or more for three terms.
Will I ever vote Liberal? Nope, I don’t vote for parties that have to borrow money from a politically connected, Canadian bank to run an election campaign, nor do I vote for parties that infiltrate the electoral process with the same “moral compass” which will use their own employees (I’m thinking Elections Canada here), to aid them in their quest for power.
Mr Weston’s take of the Conservatives is aided by the Conservatives self-abdication of their own moral compass when they lied to voters over the Income Trust issue, deciding for “us” that the cashflow to government is of utmost prioity than a policy of allowing the voter to decide how they should best invest for their own retirement.
I might point out to the usual suspects who will slag that point above, that government salaries and benefits (including their generous, self-bestowed pensions) are paid out of taxpayer’s pockets BEFORE we even get to pay for our own retirement “pensions”. We the taxpayers, do not work for government, they are supposed to be working for “us”. All political parties and their employees seem to have forgotten that small point. Nowadays, it’s all about government “business” ahead of private sector business, just to pay the overhead of government.
When you look at your paycheck after they have taken their cut, there isn’t much left over for things like “pensions”, for ourselves. Tell me that I’m wrong.
