McCain Picks Palin (Breaking) ****

Posted on 29 August 2008 by Jack

DENVER — Speculation about who John McCain would name as his running mate focused on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin after reports circulated early Friday that two short-listers — Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty — were out of the running.

Adding fuel to the Palin possibility was a report that a charter aircraft from Anchorage owned by a McCain supporter had arrived in Dayton, Ohio, where McCain has scheduled a noon ET rally to announce his choice.

Palin is considered a rising star in the Republican Party. She is the state’s first female governor, the mother of five — and at 44 is its youngest chief executive.

An obvious choice. Now McCain will have an easy time drawing in the militant Hilary vote. This election is going to be a real horse race.

  2. MaryT Says:

Funny how cnn is asking, is she experienced enough to be President should something happen to McCain. What about the O.
and his readiness. Hillory must be very upset.
Anyone catch that over the top speech last night, thought it was the Olympic closing ceremony.

  3. Anna Keightley Says:

The credentials of Palin are incredible as reported. Hunter, fisher, mother of five (including a Down’s Syndrome baby), on the record as cleaning up crime and corruption in Alaska. A veritable do all, be all “superwoman!” What do they say, the “best man for the job is a woman?” Seriusly, few women could work at these levels without an early expiry date attached to it.

  4. Mitch Says:

I agree Mary. The hypocrisy is amazing, even for Liberals.
Carter is saying McCain is running “too much” on his militaryand POW experience. WTF?! An ignorant statement from a former Commander and Chief. By the way, did you know John Kerry was in Vietnam? :-)
Now the left is saying that GOVERNOR Palin in too inexperienced to be VPOTUS or POTUS?!!?
I’d like to believe the media, inspite of their warped views on 99.9% of everything, still must be somewhat intelligent. Even they must realise the foolishness of these statements.
Yet they continue to spin and spin and spin…..

  5. MaryT Says:

The media is shocked, and it is fun to watch them. If they zero in on her so called inexperience, it will bring focus on O’s inexperience. But, the best thing about it is that she will be compared to Michelle. Also with a DS child she will get a lot of votes from the disabled. She has a son leaving soon for Iraq, as does Biden. He will now have to allow his son to go.
Gergan just said she has a thin resume, what about O’s. At least she has executive experience. Should be a great ride till Nove.

Anyone catch that over the top speech last night, thought it was the Olympic closing ceremony. She is under investigation for firing a safety commissoner, how about all the investigations of O’s friends, and their involvement with terrorist actions in the USA, Ayers.
Bet line from McCain, she is not from Washington.

  7. LG Says:

Keep an eye on the Ayers/Obama storyline, and the Annandale Challenge. The Obama campaign got to librarians in Chicago and shut down access to documents.

“Stanley Kurtz, a fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Institute and a frequent contributor to National Review. If you haven’t been following the news surrounding the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, let us bring you up to speed: Kurtz attempted to look at the files of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge of which Barack Obama was the chairman in the mid-90’s. He was barred from the files by the UIC library for unknown reasons and finally gained access to the files just yesterday”.

Download and listen to the podcast at:
    http://tinyurl.com/6zft82

It’s well worth a listen. Kurtz is being viciously demonized by the Obama campaign. Listen to the man and decide for yourself.

    “Bad smell in the room.”

It certainly looks as though Obama does not want any lights shining in this dark corner. Has the Obama campaign been taking lessons out of the Sidewinder Report burial HOWTO?

  8. Jack Says:

Stay with Instapundit. Glenn is following the game action very closely. My thought is that McCain’s choice was “inspired” and has dealt Obama a big setback.

As Cynapse has noted…it’s going to be a real horserace.

  9. Jack Says:

The Obama campaign immediately belittled Mrs Palin, who was elected governor two years ago.

“Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency,” said Bill Burton, spokesman for Mr Obama.

    You have to love it.

Update: The left is going into a frenzy. Read the comments at this link.

  10. Jack Says:

The Gray Lady has a great article up and again that “experience” problem crops up. McCain is going to beat them to death with it.

Update: It’s mind boggling so it is!!

  11. Fay Says:

Brandon’s favored son Henry Champ’s voice was actually trembling in his response on CBC after the introduction. This will be a big blow to the Democrats and CBC.
I am impressed with this woman. All mothers can relate to serving on the PTA and raising a family in a small community. I have been told many times that cities are a lot of small communities around that size of 10,000. A lot of American women will identify with this woman.

  12. Cynapse Says:

PTA? Hunting? Fishing? Raising a family?
I think the GOP groupies just lost their right to criticize Obama’s lack of political experience. Obviously it didn’t matter that much. She’s as much of an empty suit as Obama, if not more of one (I read somewhere that she’s suing the US for declaring polar bears exctinct and has been under investigation for abuse of power). She’s on the ticket to nullify Obama’s novelty effect - now Americans can choose the first black president or the first female VP. Expect the race to get VERY nasty. Pallin and Obama are going to get slaughtered by opposing partisans.

  13. Jack Says:

    Hugh Hewitt doesn’t think so.

  14. MaryT Says:

So far the Obama campaign and cnn anchors have dissed small towns, motherhood, hunters and working women. One said, Alaska, state with 13 people and cariboo. Didn’t Obama get in trouble by dissing gun owners and church goers in some state.
Women anchors are questioning his appointing a woman. Funny how they sit there in shocked disbelief.
Already Obama’s team is sayin inexperience is now off the table. I don’t think so, big difference between a President and VP. Unless of course the democrats plan to do something to McCain so she becomes President.
McCain has thrown a real sucker punch and the media is afraid it might help him a lot. It was 12.30 AB time before I heard one comment on the big speech last night.
Hillory sent a reasonably nice stmt re the choice.
There is also the problem of O using hard line tactics to keep information out of the media re Ayers and him. Threatening lawsuits, sending letters to stations telling them to ban the stuff is not great PR.
Wonder if McCain will get the Steelworkers vote now as her husband is a member, and she also belongs to a union.

Women make up about 50% of the vote, and I think a lot of those women are mothers and family orientated.

  15. UV Says:

    WOW!

  16. Timwest Says:

Gov. Sarah Palin popularity is 89% in Alaska that is a very high number.
Was on hard left comment sections from TO Red Star, G & M and CBC Canada’s lefty loons are out in full force with negative comments as usual, but I’m sure Taliban Jack and Citizen of France Dion will applaud this great women Pick by McCain ……….. (Roll eyes), almost forgot……. NAC and other feminist
Groups will Also applaud this pick, (again roll eyes).

Mary T ……….. I agree, Women anchors are questioning his appointing a woman…….. I guess these women are worried
their Democrat vote for (Mr. walk on water) could be spoiled.

You think most women would be happy Gov. Sarah Palin could be
    Vice President ?

Lefty loons are NEVER happy !

Can hardly wait to hear Canadian women in MSM like the catty
little _itch Jane Tabor from CTV and QP.

  18. Anna Keightley Says:

89 percent approval rating. It can’t get better than that. Wonder who constitutes the eleven percent?

  19. MaryT Says:

Lots of talk about this election will make history, first black POTUS or first female VP.
Let’s look to 2012. O loses, with help from the Clinton’s, McCain wins and dies in office. Female President. 2012, 2 women running for POTUS.

  20. Jema 54 Says:

I live right next door to Alaska so I really do know that Alaskans respect, admire and appreciate this incredible Governor. She has put crooked politicians in the jailhouse!! Without batting an eyelash, I might add. (Are you reading this PMSH?). Our wimpy politicians to the east of Alaska tremble every time she mentions DRILL in Anwar, she knows as well as I do that the ‘precious’ caribou are not wimpy creatures - they, like the Lady from Alaska, look fragile but they are strong, and they know how to survive; if they did not they would die in such a harsh climate.

What a breath of fresh air in this otherwise stifling election!

Alaska’s loss is America’s gain. This Lady is no shrinking violet but she is not shrill or obnoxious; she will probably straighten out McCain in the nick of time and America just might get a few years of good government. John won’t even know what hit him since he is not accustomed to intelligence and common sense wrapped in a the person of a beautiful Lady.

Mrs. Palin for VP is the best news I have heard in weeks. I only say this because I love USA; we will miss her fiercely up here.

  21. Jack Says:

I can’t say goodnight in the usual place because I’ll destroy the video code which I want to keep available so I’ll say it here.

It’s 6:35 pm and this is darned hard work. It’s time for me to go but I’m solidly behind Sarah today and will be following her situation closely. Dirty tricks will be exposed.

    Goodnight.

  22. MaryT Says:

Be prepared to hear news that Jack Cafferty, of cnn, has had a major heart attack or something. The hatred in his voice when he reports on this is dripping off his lips. Thought the media was non partisan. Obama’s speech seems to have disappeared from comment. Jack says he got 16,000 e-mails but has only read very negative ones. I think at least a few of them were positive for the choice. Think of the disappointment in the O camp, all those videos ready to go showing the vp pick saying bad things about McCain. Democrats and the media must be very afraid of this choice judging by all the venom out there.

  23. stageleft Says:

MaryT Says: Funny how cnn is asking, is she experienced enough to be President should something happen to McCain.

Experienced enough should something happen to McCain… did people not read her bio? She’s got more actual “boots on the ground” leadership experience than McCain does, and is therefore more qualified for the job than he is for petes sake.

This was a very (very) shrewd move on McCains part, and the Obama camp has gotta be worried about it.

  24. Bruce Says:

And the timing of the announcement was a stroke of genius…relagating Obama’s “I have a Dream” speech off the front page…

  25. MaryT Says:

Democratic women and cnn anchors are saying this will not bring Hillory’s women over to McCain. Not every voter for Hillory was cast by a woman, many men voted for her. If only the males come over to a gun loving, outdoorsy, intelligent woman to vote for her it will be a lot of votes. As Rush said, she does not remind men of their ex-wives. I am shocked at the venom of cnn anchors, especially Campbell Brown and Cafferty.
The other thing that blows my mind is how many anchors are saying she will be a heartbeat away from POTUS, and talking about how McCain will not live out his term. Hey, O could be hit by a car or one of those heavenly bodies that seem to surround him. She is more experienced than he is, and he thinks he is ready. I think the dems are very afraid, and comments for or against his speech have disappeared from the airwaves. Must have been a dud.

  26. mr.g Says:

I said a long time ago,all the Repub’s have to do is get a woman as a running mate and the election is in the bag!

Sad really,I was kinda hoping Osama Hussein Obama was gonna win so as to bury the democrats and liberalism for an entire generation.

  27. Joe Says:

Just caught (completely unintended) a snippet of CTV news and was amazed at the negative attitude toward Palin.

Memo to CTV Canadians don’t get to vote for POTUS.

  28. John Luft Says:

Cynapse Says “PTA? Hunting? Fishing? Raising a family?”

Hey jerk….I’d take that over Obama’s vapor any time. And my guess is that mainstreet USA will as well.

But thanks for showing your typical Liberal arrogance yet again.

  29. LG Says:

John, please, understand that some readers espouse diversity, which means they are inclusive. Inclusiveness means that they can accommodate all walks of life, including women who hunt, fish, shoot guns, and raise children. I respect Cynapse as someone who embraces such inclusiveness.

  30. Cynapse Says:

John, noble as those things may be they do not translate to political experience. You can go to any small town and find those qualities in women - surely not all of them could or should be Vice President. So if you are going to fillet Obama for not having years and years on the podium … at least be prepared to drink your own poison.

Can you or anyone like you say with a straight face that Palin was the most qualified person McCain could find?

    Let’s be honest:

“Mainstreet USA” (re: old conservative USA) does not want a black guy with a Muslim name (or any component thereof) in office, plain and simple. They were nonetheless going to lose because watching McCain’s campaign was like watching the prelude to a funeral and he was being too often compared to bush. Obama was getting by on being a rock star and giving Americans a chance to “make history”. The McCain camp brilliantly countered this by providing their own way to “make history” and in a less taboo way. This will not only take the demon factor away from the Cons who were looking for a way to hate Obama non-destructively, but it provides an avenue of protest for the jilted Democrats who lost the “identity politics” horse race via Hillary.

McCain just turned a potential blowout into a real horse race. This race is now interesting.

But that’s all it is. America’s biggest problem -its deficit- will not be solved by either of these candidates, and the president’s ability to seriously affect the debt is quite limited. Personally, I’m watching Bernanke more than McCain.

  31. MaryT Says:

Just heard another thought on ctv news. She wont get the hillory voters enmasse, but she will get some of them and the rest will just stay home. Either way, that is not good for the big O. I bet the Clintons are very happy that the speech was off the radar today, and there were no sound bites of memorable lines. I think he is too confident, and the stadium makeover for the speech did not sit well with many americans. And, considering that many of those that got tickets had to commit to at least 2 hours of campaign work.

  32. Hans Rupprecht Says:

Of course you realize that PALIN was one of the Monty Python troop don’t you?

Biden time with the Obama-Nation ™ will have them PALIN in comparison, to MCCAIN making french fries.

MaryT check out the comments here! Remember CTV viewers mostly don’t get to vote for the POTUS or VP.

I just watched the youtube video above.

    No teleprompter for Mrs.Palin.

Looks like it’s all over for the Affirmative-Action Candidate

Oh and I almost forgot to mention she’s “Dreamy”!
