Jack: “Snake Oil!”

Posted on 19 August 2008 by Jack

Back in the 1800’s nomadic pedlars used to wander from town to town selling a “magic elixer” and they were a big hit because it cured everything– at least temporarily.  One of the ingredients was opium and they couldn’t sell enough of it.  Wyatt Earp lost his first wife to the dream.  Britain and other European nations built empires selling the stuff to China.

Closer to the present day we still find it on the shelves of drugstores everywhere.  I won’t name the brand because I don’t want to be sued but it exists.

“Nuff said.”

The point I wish to make is that “Snake Oil” (as it used to be called) applies to other matters as well and are just as dangerous.

Today, I featured a news item at the top of my blog and because I was well aware of the history behind the headlines (and had been for years) I started to search using Kate as my reference point.  The lies spouted by Chretien were unbelievable and it only gets worse as you begin to read into the situation.   As I read through the comments at CBC (the article has disappeared) I realized that Canadians don’t believe him and haven’t for a long time.  They also do not believe Martin or the latest incarnation of the “natural governing party”.

Dion!

Pay attention, folks.

Dion is selling “Snake Oil” and he intends to tax you into the poorhouse using your gullibility as his main tool.

I wouldn’t go there.

Canada has lost billions to a dream that will never come to be and has had quite enough of socialists.  It’s time to get back on the trail.

    Jack:

I took the time to watch the “I wouldn’t go there” video.

Interesting and informative….I hadn’t seen that particular piece before….

Oh…and by the way…at my rates, you owe me $130.00…:-)

Good piece…but the point of the program will never be picked up by our MSM…

The financier of desmogblog.com, the website that is at the forefront of debunking scientists like Tim Ball as being in the pay of “big oil” (false) not long ago pleaded guilty to money laundering in the US and is expected to be sentenced to as much as 20 years imprisonment…

    I cannot wait for “the Goreacles’s” trial….

Neither can I and I picked up on your latest entry on your site today. You’re up in the AM. Maybe you will want to have another look at it before that happens.

    Take care…

Stats indicate approaching 30 percent of Canadians read the political net and sites so that leaves 70 percent needing the specifics of the Harper gov’t accomplishments. It’s incumbent on our tax supported CBC et. al. to review the above noted websites and thus, dispense with the “snake oil” — entirely apt in description as to what our mainstream media has been peddling. The Liberals have done the finest job of turning the public completely off their ill-based, self-interested programs. You’d almost think it was intentional. And maybe it is. Something I’m thinking about anyways.

But just as an industrialist took interest in the British Isles, why not call on business and industry — citizens calling on these sectors to support tax cuts, reforms to our legal system, simply because ethical modes of business incur business profitability. It’s the only way to go. With the economic forecasts doing all the pointing, people should grasp it’s for an entire population’s benefit. Canada’s uniquely positioned and the response has to be overwhelming in the form of a 70 percent showing of support next election.

Harper’s not Mulroney. He’s proven he’s his own man and admin. He stood up to big business in the Health Dept.’s BPA (bisphenol A) decision. That told me all I wanted to know, despite the fact that a recent article as exhonerated the chemical.

MSM should now be more aware than ever. We not only not believe half of what we read, but it’s down to a tenth maybe now. Which leaves us all guessing in actuality as to what’s up or down. All of us can push for taxation going down. The rest indeed will be history.

Previously, Canada was highest taxed on planet of nations. What say we aspire now to lowest taxation status. We can do it with our votes. An accountable gov’t can effect it. Harper and team promise to get it done. And you have our votes.

Take care of the homeless vets NOW. You’ve earmarked the money. Canadians approve.

Gung-ho environmentalists doing money laundering. Hmmmmm. How very interesting. Twenty year sentence..even more surprising.

Opium available on pharmacy shelves. Who knew? Apparently a W-5 show did an expose on a legal drug, Oxycontin, whereby it’s a highly addictive painkiller, allegedly prescribed by physicians for sports-type injuries, but as addictive say as heroin. THis is a second-hand account based on a conversation I had with someone who saw the program.

However, reportedly this drug is being sold on the streets and the cost is $500. for for pills. If true, the snakeoil has a whopper of a price tag, not only in dollars, but in brain and life destroying effects. I’d never heard of this one, but sounds like a really bad problem out there.

I think the best solution for addictive is opting for cold turkey method in farm type settings where skilled staff guide these hopeless individuals through painful episodes which may break the cycle. These farms used to exist — they do in S. America and I’ve read where there’s some notable success with greater numbers achieving results. Another idea that could possibly complement safe injection sites and possibly replace them when stats prove the greater worth of an alternate program.

Hi Jema. Been reading your recent posts in catchup mode last couple of days. Detailed history backgrounders are great. Also, every other day I go have a listen of “Celtic Thunder.” A grounder that one is. Go check out Cher’s stuff. Has an earthiness that can be appreciated and even refreshing. Such a bare-naked appearing lady she is. Must be liberating to be such an exhibitionist. Must try it some time. Hahaha. NOT. LOL.

Wonder if Chretien would invite us all for a “au gratis” weekend of golf at his resort? No chance, eh! He’s in and out of retirement even. Can’t be fully enjoying it like one would expect! Let’s hope PMSH (deserving even) gets the three terms that he managed to clinch.

Link below is a wind energy film by apparently a leading edge producer. Whyat Earp was my hero, Jack going way, way back. The wind is out of my sails on that story, I tells ya. Hahahaha. The devil’s always in the details and we learn something new everyday. I mean Wyatt Earp and Mighty Mouse were even stevens. Link below:

Note plethora of investment opportunities that won’t be missed (central focus of course).

Thank-you Anna. It is great to see you back here in print too. I am not surprised, but I am happy, to hear that you like Celtic Thunder too! I go over to the U-tube every day or so for my ‘Celtic fix’ and I always feel much better about the world after listening to that wonderful, haunting music and a smile for them all; esp. for the young man with the BIG voice and the presence of someone three times his age. I haven’t watched Cher but I will check it out.

What do you think of the situation in Georgia, Anna? Jack’s Newswatch has done an extraordinary ground setting coverage of the entire crisis and the consequences; with excellent commentary by our host, himself; IMO.
