Gunter: Liberals literally can’t afford an election ***
Posted on 08 August 2008 by Jack
By all rights, Stephen Harper’s Conservative minority government should have fallen ages ago.
Minorities don’t last long, as a rule in Canadian politics; most average just over one year, four months. And Conservative minorities last less than most.
When the Liberals have been in the minority, they have had the Progressives or NDP to prop them up. The Conservatives have had no one.
It’s the same now. None of the opposition parties — the Liberals, Bloc and NDP — support Tory policies. They would bring the government down, if they could.
But the Liberals have been forced into the role of prop for the Harper Conservatives because they simply cannot afford to fight a general election. Time and again they have voted for laws or budgets at odds with their own platform, just to avoid a federal campaign for which they have no money.
Since the Liberals’ sorry finances have not improved this year (if anything, they’ve worsened), I don’t believe all the recent huff-and-puff about a fall election.

Maybe someone will come up with some of those famous little brown bags to help the poor Liberals out of their financial mess.
If this is the way they manage their own finances do we really EVER want them close to the government kitty again.
Not in my lifetime. Cheers.

Agree, SOR. The voting public better get on top of the fact that the Liberal “staged platform” will never materialized. Election promises to the public run on “empty” and if you think our gas tanks cost now, vote Liberal and it’ll double. I think their record of lies has a long history now. Citizen tax relief has been afforded now over two budgets. We can’t allow that to be disbanded by a returning Liberal gov’t. The answer must be no. Neighbour talking to neighbour will achieve a 70 percent majority for the practical, action-oriented Conservatives. Meanwhile, let more initiatives roll out in the Fall session of parliament FOR ALL CANADIANS.

MSM polls show approx. 30% support for Libs.
Why does the MSM not ask the question: how come the 30% do not
want to open their wallets and give $$$$ to LPoC ???
Hello……. TO RED Star, G & M, CBC ????

I do not think that Conservatives are much different than Liberals in the opening the wallet department. I just think that the support for the Conservatives is huge and is being down played by the MSM.
Cancel the 1.75 per vote and let each party fund their own expenses. Make it truly democratic.

Totally agree, Pat. I’m just asking myself what the 7 percent in the poll right here are possibly thinking. What do they think they’re throwing their vote to? In my opinion, somebody must be paying the trolls? How about people trolling for legitimate agendas and families of this country? When and where do we actually do democracy. If not now, when???

“I just think that the support for the Conservatives is huge and is being down played by the MSM.”
Pat, I just don’t think Canadians are that much interested in their country as long as they are comfortable with their own personal standard of living. The unofficial Liberal Party motto ‘take care of #1′ has spread through the population like a disease and bred patriotism right out of the equation. I hope more than anything else that I am wrong and you are right.

The Huffin’ Puffins will not blow The House down, lest they become an extinct species.
They totally deserve the mess they are in. Good riddance.
Your Liberals. Unfair to women!

I guess those brown paper bags full of (our) money arent showing up as often as they use to. Anyone for more beer & popcorn to help Canadas natural governing party out of their financial dilemma. No takers?

The “left” are history in this country because here’s what they do…
No wonder all their MP’s are deserting the party. They don’t want to go bankrupt.

Is there any chance that the missing 40 mil adscam money could reappear in the next election? Jake
