Liberals shuffle shadow cabinet roles *

Posted on 31 March 2008 by Jack

OTTAWA - Liberal Leader Stephane Dion is announcing a mini-shuffle of his shadow cabinet today, replacing defence critic Denis Coderre with Bryon Wilfert, who is moving from associate foreign affairs critic.

Coderre, a Montreal MP, will move to heritage and official languages. Wilfert, a Toronto MP, was one of the architects of the Liberal position which led to a compromise agreement with the Harper government to extend the Canadian military mission in Afghanistan.

Newly elected MP Bob Rae, who has been serving as foreign affairs critic from outside the House of Commons, will now take over the role in the House.

Martha Hall Findlay, who like Rae was recently elected in a federal byelection in Toronto, gets the post of associate finance critic, working with finance critic John McCallum.

Gerard Kennedy will act as intergovernmental affairs critic from outside the Commons. Kennedy, former Ontario education minister, is the only one of the eight final 2006 Liberal leadership candidates who is not an MP. He plans to run in the next general election in Toronto.

This ought to send a message to Canadians and liberal mps outside of Toronto . As far as Stephane Dion is concerned , YOU ARE NOBODOY. This should fix any unrest in the liberal ranks because if there is an election thats all there will be - the liberal party of Toronto

Does this mean Codere will not be trying to get to Afghan to make a fool of himself, or will no longer come up with stupid questions in QP.
What is the message to other Iggy supporters. How many are there and could Iggy take them with him and pull a Chuck Strahl.
Iggy will not take losing Deputy Leader (which will probably be tried) very quietly.
Looks like all those former ndpers have succeeded in taking over the liberal party. Wait till Buzz gets into the House.
